Internist
Alberto Eraldo Colombo
After graduating in medicine and surgery from the University of Milan in 1978 with a score of 110/110 cum laude and a thesis on an innovative hepatological topic, my first professional steps were as a medical officer and then as a ward doctor at several hospitals: of Valsolda, of Cittiglio, of Ponte di Varese and since 1982 at the Sant'Anna Hospital in Como. Prof. Gaetano Ideo was then head physician who directed me to dedicate myself full time to liver diseases and gave me the opportunity to achieve a master's degree in liver diseases from the University of London with Prof Roger Williams. In 1989 I obtained specialization in internal medicine from the University of Milan with 70/70 cum laude. I have published many research works in the hepatological and since my first years of work I have been a member of AISF and EASL.
In the 90s I followed two advanced courses in abdominal ultrasound at the University of Modena which allowed me in the following years
to personally carry out periodic checks of cirrhotic patients for disease complications and for the early diagnosis of hepatocarcinoma. I have also dealt with the treatment of liver cancer with the multidisciplinary development that it has had over the years.
From 1999 to 2005 he worked as a contract professor at the School of Specialization in Liver and Metabolic Diseases at the University of Milan.
Since 2000 I have begun to deal with clinical nutrition as metabolic problems have advanced which are now the prevalent cause of liver disease. I have experienced firsthand the entire history of hepatitis C virus infection, since the virus was not yet known when it has now been eradicated with new treatments. In conclusion, my skills are therefore linked to more than thirty years of experience in the fields of hepatology, clinical nutrition and ultrasound practice.
